Sinister Cinema

Chuck Scott, Adam Sorg, directed by Hershell Gordon Lewis. This is a pretty amazing movie. Not much of a plot really, just lots of hootin and hollerin, feuds, stills, singing, and gory murders. The scene where Scotts wife runs off into the woods with the local pug ugly sherill is pretty hysterical. A true study in backwoods southerners and hillbillies of the 1960s. Crude and cheap, but fascinating in its own way. Color, 35mm.

Andre de Toth, Jack Palance, Anita Ekberg. Palance plays the son of Genghis Khan, while Ekberg is the lady he lusts for. An elaborate spectacle piece with lots of excitement and plenty of pitched battles. Color, 16mm.

Leslie Fenton, Muriel Evans. A well made, poverty row, old dark house chiller with plenty of atmosphere. A young man inherits an eerie mansion that's filled with mystery and terror. From 16mm.

A top-of-the-line drive-in classic. Radiation has caused ordinary leeches to mutate into giant monsters. They threaten the folks in a small bayou town. Vickers is at her sleaziest, sexiest best as the local storekeepers unfaithful wife. She and her lover are caught by her husband and driven into the swamp where the monsters pull them down into the slime. Why did she marry Bruno to begin with? This made-for-TV Brit sci-fi film is absolutely riveting. A strange tramp collapses near the home of a doctor, who himself has been suffering from bad dreams. In his nightmares he repeatedly sees someone resembling the tramp. The tramp is admitted to the hospital, clutching a small, decaying finger bone. An acting troupe secures an old theater for the group's new play. They are warned by the aging caretaker that the theater is home to a vampire, who might be awakened. The group pays no heed, though, and when the vampire shows up, it sees that the most beautiful member of the troupe looks lke the woman he once loved in real life. Things spiral downhill from there. Lots of gothic thrills in this well-made chiller.
