Sinister Cinema

This is a good old monster in a castle tale. A couple of young babes wander into a supposedly haunted castle. No ghosts, but they are done in by a monster with a hideous face. There's also a young girl haunted by dreams who's a dead ringer for the mistress of the castle, now missing for 20 years. A reporter and a swami-type fellow (kind of like Nils Aster in Night Monster) try to sort it all out. No classic but still good fun.

A group of young women struggle to survive on a post-apocalyptic Earth where no men seemed to have survived. Their leader is an aged woman born before the war. The girls have been raised in a barbarous manner, which they sometimes flaunt. They stumble upon an old hotel, the "Hotel Ozone," and discover a lonely old man. This is one of the most oddly titled sci-fi movies in history, but it's very poignant, engrossing, and, at times, quite chilling.

Returning from their trip to Mars, the crew of MR4 intercept a distress signal from Captain Wilson, a U.S astronaut, and must change course for Venus to attempt a space rescue. But through the space periscope, Brown sees what appears to be a city on the planet's surface. Desperate to investigate, Brown edits Wilson's message and tricks the crew into landing on Venus so they can rescue him. A fine eight-episode TV mini-series. Two discs.

Rains is brilliant as a sideshow mind reader whose powers turn out to be real. Soon he is making a plethora of accurate predictions deaths, accidents, horse racing results, etc. However, he is unable to control his prophecies until he realizes that he can only invoke them in the presence of a certain young woman, who threatens to make a shambles of his marriage to the beautiful Fay Wray. Jean Simmons is terrific as the beautiful young Caroline, who goes to live with her guardian uncle, Uncle Silas (De Marney) and his equally evil son and mistress attempt to do away with her, for her inheritance, inside a gloomy old mansion. There are lots of chilling moments in this good old-fashioned gothic horror thriller.

A collection of heirs gather for the reading of Sir Robert Thorne's will in a forlorn Scottish castle, which is reportedly haunted and also the hiding place of a lost treasure. A seance is held prior to the will being read in an effort to ferret out the treasure's location. Proceedings are soon interrupted when it's discovered that the body of Sir Robert (who had experimented with cell regeneration before his death) has gone AWOL. This film opens in olden times with a young woman being dragged into a grimy building and condemned as a witch. She is later killed by the villagers. Leverington plays both the witch from the past and a beautiful young gal from present day who is possessed by her dead relative's spirit. She plans to gain revenge against the ancestors of those who defiled and murdered her long-dead relative. This isn't the greatest horror film ever made, but it's far better than some of its critical reviews....

Tom plays a tough cowboy trying to figure out who's responsible for a daring series of stagecoach robberies. The stagecoach race sequence is definitely the film's major highlight. Mix performed a number of his own stunts, some quite daring. Watch as Tom mounts the front wheels of a crashing wagon, riding them like a Roman chariot. A rousing B-western for sure.

We've never been big fans of the "dog movies" of the 1930s (Rin Tin Tin, etc.), but this B-British action-crime film is really pretty good. Plus it's got Christopher Lee to boot! Two British cops pursue a burglary suspect. One of them is shot and killed by the fleeing criminal. His partner vows to catch the killer. However, before taking on this task he is assigned a police dog for added protection. So the cop puts a German Shepard through training, the scenes of which are most engrossing and...

The opening scene of this movie is pretty cool a girl at night by a waterfall, howling dogs, screeching night birds and you guessed it a hideous, bloodthirsty vampire. Things get exciting when a ballerina troupe (all gorgeous of course) find themselves stranded in a sinister, spooky old castle, not knowing that it's infested with vampires

SPECIAL ANAMORPHIC WIDESCREEN EDITON: As far as we know, this is the first time this great space opera film has been available in an anamorphic English language edition. And it's just pure science fiction from start to finish. The cinematography is outstanding with a nice contrast between the cold, vast deepness of space and the gray, finely-sculpted interior of the spaceship. Von Nutter plays an interplanetary news reporter who spends most of his time annoying the ship's captain and crew....

Another vampire role for the legendary Lee, who looks slmost exactly as he did in HORROR OF DRACULA. This time he turns his impoverished nephew into a vampire with semi-hilarious results. His nephew, played by Rascel, has been forced to sell his ancestral castle, which has now been turned into a posh hotel. Enter Lee, who arrives in a coffin, and is soon trying to put the bite on all the good-looking female hotel guests.
