Synopsis
Two episodes plus bonus clips: While Athens sprawls, its historic core survives. After climbing the Acropolis, prowling the Plaka, and cheering folk dancers, we trip outside the city to Delphi and a medieval monastery. On the Peloponnese, we scope out Nafplion and the ancient capital, Mycenae. Greek Islands: Sun-drenched, upscale and exotic, Santorini is the rim of an ancient volcano. At one end of island is the archeological site of Akrotiri, a city frozen in time by an eruption 3,600 years ago. Naxos offers serenity, bargain rooms, and ancient Kouros sculptures. On trendy Mykonos, we catch R&R, then head to the ancient ruins of Delos, the birthplace of the sun god Apollo.
