Tim McCoy, one of the earliest and most memorable actors of American Westerns, plays Lightin' Bill Carlson, a former federal agent posing as a Mexican desert guide named El Puma who is escorting an archeological expedition helmed by Professor Lucius Lloyd (Forrest Taylor) through the Indian badlands on Mexico. Full of rousing action sequences and fine performances that elevate the film out of the B Western formula, "Fighting Renegade" is the fifth film in the "Lightning Bill Carlson" series.

John Muller, a career criminal on the fun from vengeful gangsters after a botched casino robbery, finds the ultimate hideout; he remakes himself to take the place of a successful psychoanalyst who bears a strong resemblance to him. However, he fails to take into account that when you take over someone's life, you inherit the good with the bad.

Roy Rogers and Gabby Hayes are together again in this Republic Pictures gem. This time they're trying to set up a medicine show in Deadwood, a town known for dangerous entrepreneurs who don't like competition. Sally Payne is on-hand as a member of the troop where Roy and Gabby work as entertainers, while Carol Adams plays a reporter who may have a romantic interest in Roy.
