Synopsis

Racketeer Vince Falcone is shocked when he is convicted and sentenced to nine years in a Federal prison. Not only had his brilliant lawyer, "Traps" Stuart, gotten him off scott-free in 34 previous trials, but he had paid a fortune to bribe the judge. Vince instructs Stuart to look after his wife, Ann Falcone, whom he had abandoned long before his incarceration. Not only does "Traps" rescue Ann financially, but they fall in love. When Vince's parole is denied, he suspects that his attorney has betrayed him. He succeeds in breaking out of jail, and with a loaded .45, heads for the city to hunt down "Traps" and administer revenge with hot lead.

People's Enemy stars two-time Oscar winner Melvyn Douglas as tough-guy lawyer "Traps" Stuart. Preston Foster co-stars as ruthless gangster Vince Falcone. In that same year, 1935, Foster would appear in Hollywood classics Annie Oakley, The Last Days Of Pompeii and The Informer, three years after his well-known role in Dr. X.
