Inspired by George A. Romero's The Crazies and Danny Boyle's 28 Days Later, I Heard the Darkness shocked audiences when it made the rounds at horror film festivals in 2012. A mysterious epidemic has turned half of the country's population into zombies. Scientists work around the clock to find a cure. The Eastern seaboard is sealed off to prevent further spread of this gruesome contagion. A few brave soldiers caught in the contaminated zone struggle to keep hordes of the undead from feasting upon the flesh on the living. I Heard the Darkness combines blood, guts, and political commentary in the style of George A. Romero. With unusually high production values for an underground horror film, it creates a vision of armageddon that seems all too possible. This is the first feature for writer-director Tye Wilson, a lifelong zombie movie fan and Illinois native. He adapted I Heard the Darkness from his critically-acclaimed short film (the original version is also included on this DVD for a fascinating side-by-side comparison.)
