Synopsis
"Get away from me. Don't touch me, you ape. You hairy ape!" So says wealthy society girl Mildred Douglas (Susan Hayward) when she boards a freighter and encounters Hank Smith (William Bendix), a stoker with a brutal disposition. Her callous comment sends Smith on a journey of self examination. Based loosely on the play by Eugene O'Neil, this was one of the last movies directed by Alfred Santell, a Hollywood journeyman who began his career in the silent era on the Mack Sennett lot. The film also stars John Lodor, Dorothy Comingore, and Alan Napier.
