Synopsis
The Senate continued work on a bill to create new science and technology programs in an effort to compete better against China. Members also voted 50-48 to discharge out of the Senate Judiciary Committee Kristen Clarke's nomination to be assistant attorney general for civil rights, the fifth time in 2021 lawmakers had to vote to advance a nomination from committee to the Senate. The previous week, Ms. Clarke's nomination deadlocked in the committee along party lines.
