Synopsis
No good deed goes unpunished - at least temporarily - in The Mayor of 44th Street. Future U.S. Senator George Murphy plays Joe Jonathan, a nice-guy Broadway agent who attempts to help a paroled racketeer and a kid involved in a street gang, only to see that duo try to take control of his operations. Anne Shirley and Richard Barthelmess, in his final film, costar, and the music includes the silken sounds of bandleader Freddy Martin.
