Synopsis

Western movie icon Randolph Scott is Ned Britt, a reformed gunfighter trying to reinvent himself as a newspaperman in director Edwin L. Marin's (Johnny Angel, Raton Pass) final feature, written by John Twist. While setting up shop as the publisher of the Fort Worth Star, Britt crosses paths with corrupt cattle baron Gabe Clevenger (Ray Teal), who terrorizes the frontier town and tests Britt's vow of pacifism with further violence. Britt's dilemma grows worse when his old friend -- and fellow gunfighter -- Blair Lunsford (David Brian) joins Clevenger as a hired gun. Lunsford has schemes and ambitions of his own, as well as a fiancee, Flora Talbot (Phyllis Thaxter), who starts to fall for Britt. As Clevenger resorts to increased violence to prevent the arrival of the railroad, Britt must choose to pursue justice either through the power of his newspaper or the might of his guns.
