Synopsis
Robert "Chummy" Rich is a fifth generation boat builder from Bernard, Maine. Like his forebears going back to the 1800's, he is a master craftsman, especially when it comes to the use of wood as a building material. With their sturdy yet attractive design and construction, Chummy's boats have found buyers as far away as South America. In this unique documentary, Chummy, with his one-of-a-kind Downeast way of explaining things, takes the viewer through the design and building process as he and his crew at Bass Harbor Boat construct the 28-foot wooden cabin cruiser Andromeda. From lofting to launching, "Chummy Rich: Maine Boat Builder" is an intimate portrait showing one man's mastery of an almost forgotten art form.
