Synopsis

"...the century's nastiest little war " -- General S.L.A. Marshall

June 25, 1950. Sunday morning, 4 AM. South Korean villagers awoke to a world filled with noise and flames. The Communists had crossed the 38th Parallel, launching an all-out undeclared war. President Truman immediately ordered the American Armed Forces to give the Korean government air cover and ground support. The UN quickly followed the Americans' lead. The Korean War had begun.

Using at times shockingly brutal combat footage, A Motion Picture History of the Korean War documents the Communists' ruthless push southward, and the determination of the combined American and UN forces to stop them. On July 27, 1953, a treaty was signed calling for a cease fire and the creation of the Demilitarized Zone, or DMZ. Before that could happen, however, many on both sides suffered, and lost their lives

This documentary was produced in 1955 by the Office of the Armed Forces Information and Education Department.
